In my recent post 'Santa Cane' I asked readers if they had their own nifty Holiday Assistive Device stories and pictures. I've received great reader response!
Our featured story 'Christmas Stockings' is a wonderful submission from Penny a writer for the Disability Studies, Temple U blog.
Last year Penny's son Jake, who was nine years old at the time, had to have orthopedic casts. The ortho tech Leonard Enoki at Children's Hospital Los Angeles was casting Jake every ten days for four weeks and since it was during the holidays he cast Jake in red and later in green giving Jake his 'Christmas Stockings.'
My hat's off to Leonard and the folks at Children's Hospital for a job well done. It's the little things that can make a hospital visit enjoyable, or at least more tolerable. I would also like to thank Penny and Jake for sharing their story and this adorable photo of Jake, asleep in his swing, wearing his 'Christmas Stockings.'
