Have been incredibly busy lately which has led to an increase in pain issues and a lack of blogging.

Since I'm not sure how Tycho and Gabe would feel about Miss Mumpy reproducing their wonderful comic, I am putting a link here to one of their new installments "Men Are From Krypton".  This ranks up their with one of my personal favorites "Pain Dot Com". 
The brilliance of MAFK is that this is exactly what it is like when you have food allergies.  The Superman analogy is perfect.  If you have a food allergy (Superman) and eat even a trace of that food (kryptonite), then you either become very sick (best case scenario, lots of fun on a dinner date) or you die (which is technically the worst case scenario but when you are bowing to the porcelain god and feeling like you are being turned inside out against your will then the latter option does have it's appeal).

**While on the topic there is a brilliant short-story in the collection Between Myself and Them: Stories of Disability and Difference, one of Mumpy's picks for the Best of 2005, Something Like a Vampire by Sara Scharf which draws the Superman vs Kryptonite and Vampire vs Garlic analogies to how life altering it can be dealing with food allergies.
 

All Packed Up With Nowhere To Go

You can always tell my really bad days weeks by the the packed bags by the door with my binders of medical records sitting beside it. 
This week was one of those weeks.  The bags are a "just in case" measure but I've come to the conclusion that no matter how much pain I am in there is nothing a trip to the hospital can do to help.  When I'm in this much pain I want to hold up a big sign in the ER saying "Check Me In!" but even if I were admitted inpatient there is nothing more to be done.  This is where the depression goblins attempt to nibble at the edges of those of us with chronic pain. 
I've bounced back of course.  A few "buttiquette" inspired jokes to my PT yesterday and I am feeling more myself again.  If you ever stop by and see a stack of medical records beside my luggage though you may wish to turn back and run!

Post-Betrayal Follow-Up

I had a terribly good reader suggestion on how to handle my post-betrayal confrontation with my physical therapist.

Make only one more visit to the PT.  Talk non stop about penguins and their attacks on your home and how you feel counseling could solve your problems. Threaten him with an egg whisk. Cross the road to your doctor - be rational, deny everything you have just said and done with the PT. Home for chocolates and giggles. 

Alas, after agonizing over how to handle the situation I ended up going for a straightforward confrontation with a witness (thanks mom!) present.  Although a bit more boring than the wonderful suggestion by Cass it was however quite entertaining.  I didn't know my therapist could turn so many shades of red! 
Today we had a physical therapy session and it is amazing how friendly someone can be once the fear of Mumpy has been put into him!
