SHAMELESS: The ART of Disability

Bonnie Sherr Klein, award-winning author and documentary filmmaker, is at it again with her brilliant new film SHAMELESS: The ART of Disability.  "Art, activism and disability are the starting point in what unfolds as a funny and intimate portrait of five surprising individuals, including Klein herself." The world premiere for SHAMELESS will take place at the DOXA Documentary Film & Video Festival Tuesday, May 23rd.

Bonnie Klein will be one of CitizenShift's featured Rebels With A Cause  beginning next Tuesday.  While over at CitizenShift be sure to check out the current piece on This Ability "a filmmaking program for adults with developmental disabilities, formed as a partnership of the National Film Board and the Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion."

Disabled Teen Forced to Leave Theater

Matt Brown, who has Angelman syndrome, and his mother Susan went to watch the movie The Pink Panther.  A comedy. Matt laughed during much of the movie which apparently annoyed other theater goers.  The manager then asked them to leave since "Several members of the theater audience complained that the guest's outbursts were disruptive".

Stella the Star!

I've just discovered through Marmiteboy's excellent blog that our crip blogpal Stella of Where the Cornflakes are blogging fame is an Australian television star!

Stella is on the disability chat show No Limits! which "looks at living life to to the fullest with a disability."  This program looks brilliant and demonstrates that quality disability programming can be successful.  Perhaps No Limits! will eventually have an international release?  Mumpy hopes so.  Well done Stella!

Rx for Survival: A Global Health Challenge, a new PBS television series, will premiere November 1st. 

Rx for Survival — A Global Health Challenge is a groundbreaking multimedia project, anchored by a six-hour PBS television series airing November 1-3, 2005, and supported with a constellation of other media stories and specials, a rich Web site that can help you get informed and get involved, and a campaign to help the neediest children in the developing world.

Angry Alien has produced some great 30 second versions of popular films such as Pulp Fiction, Aliens, and Jaws with, uh, bunnies.  Worth the 30 seconds to check it out.

Sneak Peak: The Forgotten Ones

I was honored this week with an  invitation to a pre-screening of the independent film "The Forgotten Ones."   
"The Forgotten Ones" is a Science Fiction film about the invasion of  alien bugs and students in an invaded High School taking a stand against the dreaded aliens.   This film was created by disabled students from the Summit School for the Developmentally Disabled in Montreal.   With the help of Jess Heffring of Quietus Films the students wrote the script and acted out the roles in this entertaining film.  "The Forgotten Ones" is anticipated for public release June 29, 2005.
